Course Overview
This training program provides participants with the knowledge and hands-on skills to safely operate powered lift trucks (forklifts), including counterbalance, reach, and pallet trucks. The course complies with CSA Standard B335-15 and provincial regulations (e.g., OHSA in Ontario). It includes classroom instruction, practical exercises, and final evaluations to ensure operator competency in various workplace settings.
Competencies
Participants will learn to:
- Understand legal responsibilities under OHSA and CSA B335-15
- Identify different classes of lift trucks and match them to job needs
- Recognize hazards (e.g., tip-overs, pedestrian risks) and apply control measures
- Perform and document pre-operational inspections
- Operate lift trucks safely, including load handling, stacking, and shutdown
- Calculate load capacity and maintain stability
- Adapt techniques for indoor, outdoor, or warehouse environments
- Respond to mechanical issues, collisions, or emergencies
- Complete a practical driving assessment and theory test
