Manufacturing Health & Safety is designed to provide learners with the knowledge and skills necessary to ensure a safe working environment within manufacturing facilities. The emphasis is on identifying and mitigating potential hazards, complying with safety regulations, and promoting a culture of safety in the manufacturing industry. Competency is built by gaining insights into identifying, assessing, and controlling workplace hazards and understanding regulatory compliance. Certification: WHMIS

Competencies

Lesson 1: Understanding Safety Culture

  • Define and explain the concept of a safety culture within the manufacturing industry.
  • Identify the elements that contribute to a positive safety culture.

Lesson 2: Industry Standards and Regulations

  • Familiarize yourself with relevant industry standards and regulations.
  • Understand the importance of compliance with safety and quality standards.

Lesson 3: Regulatory Compliance

  • Demonstrate knowledge of local, national, and international safety standards in manufacturing.
  • Apply knowledge of compliance with regulations such as Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) guidelines.

Lesson 4: WHMIS Certification

  • Complete the Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) certification.

Lesson 5: Risk Assessment

  • Practice using risk assessments to evaluate the severity and likelihood of workplace hazards.
  • Prioritize identified risks based on their potential impact on health and safety.

Lesson 6: Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

  • Understand the importance of PPE in preventing workplace injuries and illnesses.
  • Demonstrate the proper use, maintenance, and disposal of PPE.

Lesson 7: Safety Training and Communication

  • Communicate safety information clearly and consistently.
